Matt O’Connor is going to have nightmares about this one for a long time.
Boston University had a one-goal lead over Providence College in the Division I men’s hockey championship game Saturday night at TD Garden. The Terriers appeared to be in control of things when Friars defenseman Tom Parisi dumped a harmless shot toward net.
O’Connor calmly caught the puck in his glove. Then this happened.[tweet https://twitter.com/myregularface/status/587073063973429248 align=’center’]
It doesn’t get much worse than that.
Unless, of course, you consider that Providence’s Brandon Tanev beat the shell-shocked BU goaltender with a wrist shot just over two minutes later to give the Friars a 4-3 lead with less than 10 minutes to play. [tweet https://twitter.com/TheCauldron/status/587074515206676481 align=’center’]
That’s the way the game ended, as Providence held on to pull off the shocking upset.
As for O’Connor, well, someone probably should give him a hug.
