Major League baseball dished out six suspensions Saturday after the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox were involved in a nasty, bench-clearing brawl, adding to a long legacy of baseball fights.
While the Royals-White Sox throwdown was the first big one of the 2015 season, it’s far from the first in the history of the sport. In fact, fights are as much a part of baseball as sunflower seeds or pine tar.
Whether they stem from a heated rivalry or a one-time slight, brawls are guaranteed to happen every season. Just ask the 2004 Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees or the 1984 San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves.
Some people might think baseball is boring, but you can bet they’ll be whistling a different tune once the benches clear.
