Just call him Dr. Wilfork.

This year’s graduates of New England Institute of Technology were lucky enough to hear some words of wisdom from former New England Patriot Vince Wilfork, who gave the school’s commencement address and received an honorary doctorate in humane letters on Sunday.

And the nose tackle, who’s starting a two-year deal with the Houston Texans, had some good advice for the new grads.

“We’re all in the same boat,” Wilfork said, via The Providence Journal. “We are starting a new chapter in our lives together. What are we going to do about it? Are we going to make it the best chapter in our life? Grab the bull by the horns and just ride on to this, and let’s make these the best chapters we can.”

Wilfork embodied the “Patriot Way” during his 11-year tenure in New England, and he shared that philosophy with the class.

“I’ve been fortunate and blessed to play at this level for a long time, and I wouldn’t be able to do that if I didn’t humble myself and listen to people that played the game before me, to a rookie, yes, a rookie,” Wilfork said. “So I don’t look at myself (as being) better than anyone. I look at myself as a student in life. Every day we live, you can learn something. You can learn something every day — trust me.”

But it wasn’t all business for Wilfork, who shared this funny story before declaring he’ll always be a Patriot.
