CC Sabathia, Joe Girardi Ejected After Yankees Turn Double Play (Video)

It’s not often you see a team turn a double play and then have a player and a manager ejected. That’s what happened Sunday for the New York Yankees, though.

As you might imagine, however, that’s only half the story, as both starting pitcher CC Sabathia and manager Joe Girardi were dismissed after the top of the sixth ended with a double play.

Clearly fed up with the strike zone, Sabathia gave home plate umpire Dan Bellino a piece of his mind as he walked off the mound and to the dugout. Bellino was more than willing to fire back, and the two quickly started yapping at each other. Sabathia eventually said the magic word(s) and was given the gate.

As soon as Sabathia was tossed, Girardi sprung from the dugout to protect his player and get his share of shouting in before being tossed, too.

In reality, it wasn’t the worst time for Sabathia to get run. He had just finished his sixth inning of work and his day could have been over anyway, so why not give blue an earful. Plus, the Yankees went on to win the game and sweep the series over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
