The Boston Red Sox brought back a second Ramirez.

The Red Sox recalled right-handed reliever Noe Ramirez from Triple-A Pawtucket before Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. First baseman/third baseman Travis Shaw was optioned back to Pawtucket following Friday night’s game to make room on the active roster.

The major league call-up marks the second of Ramirez’s career, with both coming this season. The 25-year-old made his big league debut July 3 and suffered the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) in the 10th inning of the Red Sox’s game against the Houston Astros.

Ramirez, a fourth-round selection in 2011, is 4-0 with a 2.15 ERA in 18 appearances spanning 29 1/3 innings with Pawtucket this season. He posted a 2.15 ERA last season in 67 innings spread out over 42 appearances with Double-A Portland.

Shaw has appeared in nine games over four major league stints this season, going 3-for-15 with two runs scored and a walk. All three of his hits came in a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins on July 7.

Shaw, a ninth-round pick in 2011, is hitting .250 with five homers, 28 RBIs and a .684 OPS in 66 games for the PawSox this season.

Ramirez’s big league stay could be short. Red Sox manager John Farrell announced before Saturday’s game that knuckleballer Steven Wright, currently stationed at Pawtucket, will start Monday’s series finale against the Angels, meaning Boston will need to make another roster move before that game.
