Joe Kelly Earns Amica Pitcher Of The Week Honors After Win Over Mariners

The Boston Red Sox’s offensive explosion Friday night overshadowed a very respectable performance by Joe Kelly.

The Red Sox right-hander allowed just one run — a solo home run in the first inning — on four hits in a 15-1 rout of the Seattle Mariners, earning him Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.

Kelly, who earlier this season struggled so badly on the mound that he was sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket, has pitched much better of late. Friday’s win was his third in as many starts, and he’s allowed just three earned runs over his last 11 1/3 innings pitched.

Kelly walked two and struck out six against the Mariners.
