Tom Brady’s father is jacked and pumped about his son’s four-game suspension being lifted.
U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman ruled Thursday to vacate Brady’s suspension related to the New England Patriots quarterback’s alleged involvement in Deflategate. The news delighted Pats fans, as you’d imagine, and perhaps no one was happier than Tom Brady Sr.
“We’re just elated,” Tom Brady Sr. told The Boston Globe after Thursday’s ruling. “We’re just glad that somebody saw the case for what it is, and that the Kangaroo Court is no longer in session.”
Brady Sr. defended his son several times amid the Deflategate drama, clearly feeling the Patriots quarterback was mistreated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the league. He even referred to the saga as “Framegate” in a May interview after the Wells Report was released.
Brady Sr. can’t say for sure how Deflategate will impact his son’s relationship with the NFL, but it’s unlikely the sides will exchange Christmas cards moving forward.
“I can’t expect him to have such a warm and fuzzy relationship that he had before last January,” Brady Sr. told The Boston Globe. “Yeah, they have (dragged Brady’s name through the mud). He has learned a lot through this process. Who he can trust, and who he can’t trust.
“His decisions in the future are going to be based on a much larger bank of knowledge than he was making decisions on before last January. He certainly knows who his friends are and who the people who were willing to jump on him and convict him before all of the evidence was on the table.”
The NFL has appealed Judge Berman’s ruling, meaning Deflategate isn’t officially over. Brady will suit up for the Patriots’ season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers next Thursday, though, and that’s a huge relief for those who supported the future Hall of Famer every step of the way.
“I will say that I’m very happy that my son is playing football and that he has handled himself with tremendous grace through these slings and arrows,” Brady Sr. said, according to The Globe. “We’re just glad we’re going to get to see our son playing football and get beyond this nine-month ordeal that has taken away from our last Super Bowl victory.”
The sweetest Super Bowl victory could be the next one.
