Alex Khokhlachev’s third NHL call-up lasted all of two games.

The Boston Bruins announced Friday they had reassigned Khokhlachev to Providence and called up forward Frank Vatrano, who will join the big club for the first time in his career.

Vatrano, a native of East Longmeadow, Mass., signed an entry-level contract with the Bruins this past March after playing one full season at UMass. He’s since torn up the AHL, tallying 12 points and a league-leading 10 goals through 10 games this season.

The 21-year-old also appeared in five games for the P-Bruins last season, recording one goal on 15 shots.

Khoklachev, who was recalled Tuesday from Providence in the wake of David Pastrnak’s foot injury, skated on Boston’s third line in losses to the Dallas Stars and Washington Capitals, averaging 14:40 of ice time and recording three total shots on goal.

The Bruins visit the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
