Holly Holm shocked the world Saturday night by knocking out Ronda Rousey at UFC 193.
Rousey was viewed as unstoppable entering the bout, having won her previous three UFC bantamweight championship matches by a combined 64 seconds. But Holm clearly was prepared for the challenge.
Holly defeated Rousey via a second-round knockout following a vicious kick to Rousey’s head. The outcome represents perhaps the biggest upset in MMA history, as very few gave Holm a shot against Rousey, who is one the sport’s biggest superstars.
The loss undoubtedly is a blow to Rousey’s marketability. She has become a global icon of late because of both her dominance and her confident personality. It remains to be seen whether the competitors will battle again, but Holm said immediately following the fight that Rousey deserves a rematch.
