Sting finally made his way to WWE in November 2014 after spending the bulk of his professional wrestling career with WCW. Now, The Icon will be immortalized by Vince McMahon’s company.

WWE announced Monday that Sting will be inducted into its Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2016. He’s the first superstar announced for the class, which will be enshrined Saturday, April 2, on the eve of WrestleMania 32.

“We are truly honored to have Sting take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame,” Paul Levesque, more commonly known as “Triple H,” said, according to WWE.com. “His contributions to our industry are unprecedented, and we look forward to celebrating his incredible career with fans all over the world.”

Sting, whose real name is Steve Borden, served as one of the faces of WCW throughout the 1990s, even revitalizing his career with a dramatic character change that began in 1996. He finally debuted with WWE at the 2014 Survivor Series, where he attacked Triple H, setting up a legendary match between the two last March at WrestleMania 31 at Levi’s Stadium.

Sting later feuded with up-and-coming WWE champion Seth Rollins and ultimately suffered a serious neck injury during a match at the “Night of Champions” pay-per-view in September. His in-ring future is uncertain, but his impact on the professional wrestling landscape is obvious.

It really was just a matter of time before Sting entered the WWE Hall of Fame.
