Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens will coach his team with a heavy heart Tuesday: Andrew Smith, a former player whom Stevens coached at Butler University, died in the morning after a battle with cancer.
Stevens will lead the Celtics against the red-hot New York Knicks, who look to avenge a loss to Boston two weeks ago at TD Garden. The Knicks have won five of seven games in that span, and they nearly knocked off the San Antonio Spurs in one of the losses.
The Celtics, on the other hand, are hoping to rebound after losing five of six games since their last matchup with New York. A loss would drop the Celtics to .500 on the season and raise New York to .500, so Tuesday’s game is very important for both sides.
