Adam Vinatieri: Rooting For Patriots In AFC Title Game Was ‘No-Brainer’

SAN FRANCISCO — It’s hard to believe, but Adam Vinatieri has worn an Indianapolis Colts jersey for the same amount of the years that he was with the New England Patriots.

That means the last time the Super Bowl hero was a Patriot was all the way back in 2005. However, just because it’s been a decade since Vinatieri called New England home doesn’t mean he’s forgotten where he broke into the NFL.

His loyalties were tested during the AFC Championship Game, when Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, two of his former teammates, faced off with a berth in the Super Bowl on the line, but there was no doubt who he would root for.

“Very selfishly (I was rooting for) the New England Patriots because I still have great memories there,” Vinatieri told NESN.com’s Michaela Vernava on Wednesday on Super Bowl Radio Row. “I still feel like that’s kind of a home for me. … After 10 years and all the things that we’ve done, I feel like that’s a place that will always hold true in my heart. So no-brainer on that one. I knew exactly who I wanted to win, but if I’m not going to be in it then I want them to do well.”
