Twins Honor David Ortiz Before Game Vs. Red Sox, Give Him Custom Peanut Butter

David Ortiz got the most interesting retirement gift yet before the Boston Red Sox kicked off their series against the Minnesota Twins.

Ortiz spent the first six seasons of his career with the Twins, so, naturally, the team honored him for what is his final series in Minnesota. The Twins did donate $10,000 to the late Kirby Puckett’s scholarship program in Ortiz’s name, but he also got something strange: a custom 64-ounce jar of chunky peanut butter with his face on it.

There is a story behind it, of course, and it has to do with Big Papi’s former teammate Corey Koskie playing a prank on Ortiz by filling the slugger’s underwear with peanut butter. Koskie presented the gift to Ortiz himself, along with Eddie Guardado, LaTroy Hawkins, Torii Hunter and Ron Gardenhire.
