Brandon Marshall: Ryan Fitzpatrick Won’t Answer My Texts, Is ‘Scaring Me’

Ryan Fitzpatrick set a New York Jets franchise record last season by tossing 31 touchdown passes.

To Jets fans, that probably feels like a very long time ago.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets have spent the offseason locked in a highly contentious contract dispute, with the quarterback reportedly willing to settle for a one-year, $12 million deal but the team refusing to offer him one.

And now, there’s this: Fitzpatrick apparently has stopped returning texts from Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

“I don’t know what’s going on,” Marshall said Monday on Michael Rapaport’s “IAM RAPAPORT” podcast. “To be honest, me and Fitz talk every day, all the time, but I texted him the last two weeks three times and there’s no response. The only thing that he can do to make this right is to say he was on vacation, ‘I was out of the country.’ It’s not like him. It’s scaring me right now. It’s scaring me that my guy hasn’t texted me back.”

Ah, yes. No team does dysfunction quite like the New York Jets.

The Jets, who finished 10-6 last season but missed the playoffs for a fifth consecutive year, begin training camp in less than two weeks. Unless they can find common ground with Fitzpatrick, they’re looking at entering camp with Geno Smith as their projected starting quarterback.
