FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots were missing seven players on their final day of training camp open to fans and the media.
Tight end Rob Gronkowski, running back Dion Lewis (PUP), linebacker Shea McClellin, guards Tre’ Jackson (PUP) and Jonathan Cooper, offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer (PUP) and defensive end Jabaal Sheard were absent for Wednesday’s joint practice with the Chicago Bears.
Gronkowski left practice with an injury during Monday’s practice with the Bears. Sheard has been absent since Thursday’s preseason opener with the New Orleans Saints. McClellin practiced Sunday but hasn’t been on the field for joint practices with the Bears this week.
Wide receiver Danny Amendola was present but not wearing a helmet or shells. Safety Nate Ebner wore a helmet and shells for the first time this summer after playing on the U.S. Olympic rugby sevens team.
