The New England Patriots reportedly took a close look at a free-agent running back Friday.

The Patriots worked out David Cobb, who was released by the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates. Cobb was selected in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Minnesota.

Cobb carried the ball 52 times for 146 yards with one touchdown as a rookie last season. He had eight carries for 28 yards in two games this preseason.

Cobb had 563 carries for 2,896 yards with 20 touchdowns in four seasons at Minnesota. The 5-foot-11, 229-pound running back ran a 4.73-second 40-yard dash at his pro day last April with a 7.01-second 3-cone and 4.55-second short shuttle. He recorded a 38.5-inch vertical leap with a 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Patriots have running backs LeGarrette Blount, James White, Brandon Bolden, D.J. Foster, Tyler Gaffney and Joey Iosefa on their 75-man roster. Blount, White and Bolden are expected to make the Patriots’ 53-man roster, while Foster and Gaffney are competing for a final spot.
