Rams Player Gets Away With Blatant Facemask On LeGarrette Blount

Trumaine Johnson might be getting a call from the NFL this week.

During the second quarter of Sunday afternoon’s New England Patriots-Los Angeles Rams game, Johnson brought Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount to the ground with a clean tackle, then violently grabbed Blount by the facemask while the two were on the ground.

Surprisingly, Johnson was not penalized on the play, despite the fact that an official was standing just a few feet away.

Perhaps even more surprising was Blount’s reaction. He did not seem at all bothered by Johnson’s extra yank.

Rather than lashing out in retaliation, Blount popped right to his feet and trotted away, stopping to say a quick hello to Rams coach Jeff Fisher — who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2010 — on his way back to the huddle.

Blount had plenty of reason to be in a good mood Sunday. He capped New England’s first possession of the afternoon with a 43-yard touchdown romp, making Rams safety Maurice Alexander look silly in the process.

The touchdown was Blount’s 13th of the season, one shy of Curtis Martin’s single-season franchise record.
