We'll do the work so you don't have to
The NFL won’t officially unveil its 2023 regular-season schedule until 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
But history suggests we’ll know most, if not all of the New England Patriots’ slate long before the league announces it.
Schedule release day typically features a steady drip of leaks, with reports about dates and matchups trickling out over the course of several hours. These rumors often allow us to piece together the Patriots’ full schedule by midafternoon, long before the NFL’s primetime schedule release special.
Since it can be tough to keep track of each and every leak if your eyes aren’t glued to Twitter all day, we’re tracking them all right here. Follow along throughout the day for the latest updates.
The NFL did confirm one of the Patriots’ 17 games on Wednesday. They’ll “host” the Indianapolis Colts for a Week 10 clash in Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday, Nov. 12.
— The full schedule is out. Check it out here.
— The Patriots’ closing stretch is locked in:
— The Patriots will make their first trip to Dallas in eight years in Week 4, per Mike Giardi.
— The Patriots don’t have a game on Thanksgiving or Christmas this year, but they do play more than halfway across the country on Christmas Eve. They’ll be in Denver for Week 16, per the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan.
— The Patriots will see one Super Bowl LVII participant in their season opener. They’ll have to wait until Week 15 to meet the other.
— Two more AFC East matchups to report. Per Mike Giardi, the Patriots will play the Bills at home in Week 7 and in Buffalo in Week 17.
— The Patriots’ second trip to MetLife Stadium will come in Week 12. They’ll visit the New York Giants on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
— The Patriots will head back to Sin City in Week 6 for a matchup with Josh McDaniels, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jakobi Meyers and the Las Vegas Raiders, per Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard.
— The Patriots’ first matchup with Aaron Rodgers is set for Week 3 at MetLife Stadium, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. Rodgers’ Jets then will visit New England in Week 18.
— There now are multiple reports, including one from The Athletic Eagles writer Zach Berman, suggesting the Patriots will open the season at home against Philadelphia, the defending NFC champs.
— Longtime Patriots reporter Mike Giardi reported New England will open the season with consecutive home games, the second of which will be against Miami Dolphins. Giardi’s clarification came after The Score’s Jordan Schultz reported the Patriots will host the Dolphins in Week 2, though it appears that will not be their home opener after all.
— The Patriots will honor Tom Brady at their Week 2 home opener against the Miami Dolphins on “Sunday Night Football,” according to a report from The Score’s Jordan Schultz.
That means New England will open the season on the road for the second consecutive year. Based on other games that have been either confirmed or reported, they only have three possible opponents for that Week 1 matchup: Las Vegas, Pittsburgh or Denver.
— Not a schedule leak, per se, but the Patriots announced they will honor Tom Brady at Gillette Stadium during their 2023 home opener.
No word yet on whether that will be in Week 1 or later. The Patriots were in Miami to begin last season but opened at home in each of the previous five years.
— A season opener against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets? That would be a lot of fun. But it’s not happening. New York will face Buffalo on “Monday Night Football” in Rodgers’ debut, the NFL announced.
— Thursday kicked off with a preseason update. The Patriots will visit the Green Bay Packers in their second of three exhibition games, per a report from The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. An earlier report from The Athletic also indicated the Patriots and Packers were finalizing plans to hold joint practices that week.
