Steelers Acquire Josh Scobee From Jaguars After Losing Two Kickers To Injury
UPDATE (4:30 p.m. ET): The Pittsburgh Steelers announced they officially had acquired kicker Josh Scobee from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly have made a move for a new kicker.
The Steelers, who lost kickers Shaun Suisham and Garrett Hartley to injury this preseason, on Monday acquired veteran Josh Scobee from the Jacksonville Jaguars, a source informed of the deal told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
Jacksonville will receive a late-round draft pick in return, per Rapoport’s source.
The trade ends Scobee’s 11-year run with the Jaguars, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The 33-year-old has converted 80.8 percent of his career field-goal attempts, including 77.4 percent (24 of 31) last season.
Rookie Jason Myers now is in line to take over kicking duties in Jacksonville. The undrafted Marist College product has gone 4-for-5 on field-goal attempts this preseason.
Pittsburgh’s injury woes began when Suisham tore his ACL in the preseason-opening Hall of Fame Game and continued when Hartley went down with a hamstring injury during Saturday’s 43-19 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
The Steelers open the regular season Thursday, Sept. 10, against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
