Justin Forsett, Ravens Part Ways: Fantasy Impact On Baltimore’s Backfield

The Baltimore Ravens’ backfield situation just changed a bit.

The Ravens and veteran running back Justin Forsett, who was a healthy scratch in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders, mutually parted ways Tuesday, according to the team.

Forsett spoke with Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome and expressed a desire to move on in the hopes of landing with another organization that will give him more playing time.

?It was mutual,? Forsett said of being released, according to the Ravens’ official website. ?I felt like my opportunity here was closing. I?m at a phase in my career where I don?t want to sit; I want to play. I have a lot of football left in me.?

Forsett, who turns 31 next week, rushed for just 98 yards on 31 carries through Baltimore’s first three games. He took a step back in 10 games last season after an excellent 2014 campaign in which he rushed for 1,266 yards, averaged an NFL-best 5.4 yards per carry and scored eight touchdowns en route to earning a Pro Bowl selection.

Forsett’s departure means Terrance West likely will be Baltimore’s starting running back in Week 5. West made his first start of the season Sunday and rushed 21 times for 113 yards and a touchdown. He’s the Ravens’ running back to own at this point and should be owned in all fantasy football formats.

Kenneth Dixon and Javorius Allen also figure to be part of the Ravens’ offensive attack moving forward. Dixon, who is expected to make his NFL debut Sunday against the Washington Redskins after dealing with a knee injury, is an especially intriguing add. The rookie fourth-round pick was a nice receiving threat in college and performed well in the preseason, so he could become Baltimore’s top running back option in passing downs and perhaps carve out an even bigger role at some point. Dixon is worth stashing on your bench, especially since there’s a chance he’ll eventually surpass West on the depth chart.
