The Lakers had a decision to make, and they did.

By firing Mike Brown and hiring Mike D’Antoni — not Phil Jackson — the Los Angeles brass signaled loud and clear to their players that the team’s 1-4 start to the season was not acceptable, and that they were in for a change. What form that changes takes will now come into focus as D’Antoni prepares to join the team and introduce his trademark style of basketball.

While Jackson might still be reeling from the news, NESN.com NBA writer Ben Watanabe is not. He stopped by the latest podcast to chat with NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette about L.A.’s decision.

The two also touched on how D’Antoni’s offense will fit with the Lakers, whether his reputation as a bad defensive coach is deserved and what the change on the bench will mean for the team’s chances of making a run at a championship.
