NCAA Men's Tournament Live Blog: Strong Start to Day 2 of March Madness5 p.m. Players to keep an eye on as two tight games draw to a close:

Wofford's Jamar Diggs has 13 points, with Tim Johnson posting nine boards.

Wisconsin's Trevon Hughes has 17 points, followed by Jon Leuer's 16.

The score is 49-48 Wisconsin with 1:12 to go.

Missouri holds a 82-78 margin over Clemson with 0:39 remaining on Kim English's 19 points. Three other Tigers have double-digit points.

Clemson's Demontez Stitt has 18.

Pittsburgh has a 20-point lead over Oakland, 65-45. Brad Wanamaker, Gary McGhee and Jermaine Dixon all have 10 points for Pittsburgh. The Golden Grizzlies' best player is Keith Benson with 24 points. There's 8:15 remaining.

Check the next live blog for the results of the games.

4:57 p.m.: As this live blog draws to a close at 5 (no worries, another one will start right up after this), there are two games looking like they'll come down to the wire.

First is Wofford-Wisconsin, with the former holding a one-point lead with 2:10 to go.

Clemson has scraped back from a 10-point deficit to make it 79-73 with 2:27 to go.

4:55 p.m.: Clemson continues to draw closer, and the score is now 73-66.

Wofford still holds a one-point lead, 48-47 over Wisconsin.

Pittsburgh is handidly taking down Oakland, 60-44.

4:50 p.m.: Missouri's Michael Dixon just sank two free throws to mark the score at 73-64.

It's 46-45 Wofford over Wisconsin with 4:30 left, 55-39 Pittsburgh over Oakland with 11:28 to go.

4:40 p.m. Utah State-Texas A&M has been pushed back 15 minutes to a start time of 5 p.m.

Rounding up the three games in action …

Pittsburgh leads Oakland 49-31 with 15:29 remaining. The Panthers have tacked on five points to their lead in the second half so far.

Missouri has pulled ahead of Clemson, establishing a double-digit lead of 65-55 in the blink of an eye with 7:30 left.

With 8:45 left, Wofford and Wisconsin are locked up at 42 apiece.

4:35 p.m.: Purdue-Siena can be put in the books.

Purdue has held on for a 72-64 vanquishing behind JaJuan Johnson's 23 points and a sick 15 rebounds.

4:32 p.m.: Purdue leads Siena 68-63 with 33.9 seconds remaining. Purdue heads to the charity stripe as the Saints committed a foul to stop time.

4:30 p.m.: With all four games back in action, let's take a swing around, starting with the games closest to the end.

Siena has made a nice rally to get within five. With 1:17 remaining, it's 66-61 Purdue.

Missouri-Clemson is still the most exciting game to watch as both teams are playing with great energy. With 11:25 remaining, Missouri holds the edge 59-52.

Wofford has capped a stunning comeback and leads Wisconsin 38-37 with 13:22 to go.

Pittsburgh and Oakland are back from the half, Pittsburgh stretching their lead to a near-insurmountable 45-27 with 17:30 to go.

4:19 p.m.: A 20-foot 3 by Missouri's Kim English bounces around for a bit before finally falling in to tie the game up again 50-50.

This update's edition of "The More You Know…" is about Missouri. They have 22 appearances without a Final Four, most behind BYU's 24.

4:17 p.m.: At the half, it was 29-17 Wisconsin over Wofford.

There are two halves to be played, however, and Wofford is showing everyone it's not done just yet.

The Terriers have made a surprising push to trail 31-29 with 17 remaining.

4:14 p.m.: Some game leaders coming right up …

In the Pittsburgh-Oakland game that's at the half, Pitt leads 39-26, while Keith Benson of Oakland paces all scorers with 11 points. No Pittsburgh player has more than eight. McGhee leads all Panthers in rebounds with five.

Wisconsin is up 29-17 on Wofford at the half. Trevon Hughes leads the Badgers with 14 points. Tim Johnson and Noah Dahlman have six apiece to lead the Terriers.

With 6:48 remaining, Purdue leads Siena 64-51, but the Saints are threatening. They're doing so on the strength of Ronald Moore's 12, Edwin Ubiles' 11 and Alex Franklin's 10 points. Talk about spreading the ball. Purdue's JaJuan Johnson paces everyone with 21.

Keith Ramsey leads Missouri with 14 points, while Demontez Stitt has nine to lead Clemson. It's a 46-45 Clemson game with 15:58 remaining.

4:09 p.m.: Two reasons why Purdue is winning so handily. First is the edge over Siena in assists, 15 to the Saints' four. Second is the Boilermakers' margin in blocks, notching five to Siena's one. Add it up for a 59-47 Purdue lead so far.

4:07 p.m.: Interesting statistic. Missouri has 16 points off turnovers, Clemson a scant one.

4:06 p.m.: Pittsburgh led Oakland 37-22 in the waning moments of the half, but the teams will take a powder with a 39-26 edge to Pitt.

Purdue-Siena has the No. 4 Boilermakers up 59-47 over Siena with 8:36 remaining.

The most engrossing game so far is Missouri-Clemson, and the Tigers remain knotted at 45 apiece.

4:01 p.m.: Clemson-Missouri is back from the break, and both teams are coming out with tremendous energy. There's been seven ties and five lead changes in the game so far.

3:55 p.m.: Wisconsin-Wofford has hit halftime, the former leading 27-19.

The Siena Saints are making a little push, but Purdue is keeping pace with a 54-39 edge.

In the Oakland-Pittsburgh game, the Panthers have assumed control and lead 32-20. Jermaine Dixon has hit the bench.

3:50 p.m.: Oakland hasn't made a field goal in the last six minutes as the Panthers extend their lead to 25-18.

Wofford is keeping up with Wisconsin, with the latter leading 25-17 with two minutes left in the first half.

Purdue has a 45-35 edge over Siena with 15 minutes to go in the game.

3:46 p.m.: In the Pittsburgh game, Derick Nelson had to leave the game after Gary McGhee accidentally busted Nelson's eyebrow open coming down from a shot.

Pittsburgh has recovered from a poor start to take the lead, 19-18, with seven minutes left. The lead changed on a Brad Wanamaker two-pointer.

3:40 p.m.: The battle of the Tigers takes a break for the second half, and they go in tied at 39.

Siena-Purdue has been out of the half for a bit, having gotten in two minutes of play.

Purdue's gone on a 8-0 run to take a 37-32 lead. If Purdue holds on to win, it will be their 12th straight first-round victory, their last loss coming in 1993.

3:38 p.m.: The Missouri-Clemson game is shaping up to be a nice battle.

Missouri has made just 2-of-7 3-pointers while Clemson has drained 8-of-13 for a 61.5 percent mark. On the season, Clemson is shooting 33.6 percent, so the team is in way over its head.

The game is tied at 39 with 33.7 seconds left in the first half.

3:30 p.m.: As the higher seed entering a tournament contest, Wisconsin is 10-2 under coach Bo Ryan. When going against a higher seed, however, the team is 1-6 (the victory coming in 2009's upset of No. 5 Florida State).

Good thing the Badgers won't face a higher seed until the Sweet 16 — if they get there. So far, so good as they have a 15-7 edge over Wofford.

3:27 p.m.: Clemson had a 25-17 lead on Missouri, and the game has picked up since.

It's now 31-31, although Clemson big man Trevor Booker has been quiet with no points. He's contributed in other areas with three rebounds and two assists.

The 6-foot-7 senior is the only player in ACC history with a minimum of 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 assists, 200 blocks and 100 steals. This game is his 134th straight start and breaks Cliff Hammonds' school record.

3:20 p.m.: Here's a scoring update across all four games in action.

Oakland-Pittsburgh knotted at 3, the game just starting. Pittsburgh's points have come from the charity stripe, as all five of their layups have been denied.

Wisconsin is off to a 10-6 start against Wofford. The latter has yet to attempt a 3.

No. 7 Clemson is taking care of business against No. 10 Missouri, 29-19, with just under nine minutes in the first to play.

Siena and Purdue are at the half. So far, the underdog is winning, with a 32-29 edge to Siena.

In the tournament, six teams seeded 10 or lower have advanced. Siena could make that 11, while Oakland is hoping 12 is en route.

3:14 p.m.: Oakland has a great chance to join Murray State in No. 13 seeds upsetting No. 4. Oakland has won 20 of its last 21 and 11 straight. The Golden Grizzlies are going up against Pittsburgh, which lacks a big man to battle 6-foot-11 Keith Benson.

In the other 4-13 seed game, Wofford is making its tournament debut. The Terriers have no starters taller than 6-foot-6, a tough challenge up against Wisconsin.

The Southern Conference champions are also the smallest college in the field. They have only 1,450 students enrolled.

How much of an upset would it be to see the Terriers take down the Badgers? Well, 23 straight teams making their first appearance have lost in the first round. For the last victor, you have to travel back to 2001 when Houston took down No. 2 Iowa State. Only three of the 73 teams making their debut appearance have won a first-round game.

3:09 p.m.: Two more No. 4 vs. No. 13 seed games are getting under way. The Wofford Terriers are the underdog against the Wisconsin Badgers, while the Oakland Golden Grizzles are set to try and take down the Pittsburgh Panthers.

3:05 p.m.: With Robbie Hummel out for the Boilermakers, no one is giving Purdue a chance. When Hummel played, the team was 24-3, scoring 73 points on average per game. Without? Purdue went 3-2 and averaged 59 points. No wonder Siena has a 27-24 lead. All the factors are aligning yet again for another upset.

3 p.m.: Siena has grabbed a 20-17 lead over Purdue, thanks to a 10-2 run. Alex Franklin has dropped 10 points for the Saints while the Boilermakers are paced by JaJuan Johnson.

2:55 p.m.: Clemson will have its hands full with Missouri, which leads the field in steals per game and forced turnovers per game. History isn't on Clemson's side either as coach Oliver Purnell is 0-5 in NCAA Tournament games.

Those remembering Missouri's Elite Eight finish a year ago may be curious as to why it's seeded 10th this go-round. The team lost Matt Lawrence, DeMarre Carroll and Leo Lyons — all 1,000-point scorers. The Tigers also are without Justin Safford, who suffered a season-ending knee injury.

2:52 p.m.: The battle of the Tigers is under way. Missouri is a No. 10 seed going up against No. 7 Clemson.

Purdue leads Siena 15-10.

2:41 p.m.: Siena is hoping to do what Murray State did Thursday: take down a No. 4 seed. The No. 13 seed Saints are another trendy pick to engineer an upset, but Purdue and history won't go quietly. No. 13 seeds are 22-70 against No. 4 seeds in the tournament since 1985, and Purdue holds an admittedly slim and early 7-4 edge.

2:35 p.m.: Chris Mack gets his first tournament win as Xavier takes out Minnesota 65-54 behind Jordan Crawford's 28 points.

Cornell has downed Temple 78-65, as Siena-Purdue gets off to a 2-2 start.

2:31 p.m.: With 26 seconds left, Minnesota is trying to overcome a nine-point deficit, but it's too little, too late.

There's less than a minute in the Cornell-Temple tilt, with the former leading 78-63.

Siena-Purdue should be getting under way shortly.

2:25 p.m.: With 1:30 left in the game, Minnesota is trying to make things interesting. They've closed a 10-point deficit to seven.

2:22 p.m.: West Virginia's day is done, crushing Morgan State 77-50.

Xavier maintains its double-digit lead over Minnesota, 57-47, with less than 3:30 in the game.

2:20 p.m.: Cornell now leads 73-56 with four minutes to play. Yup, this game's pretty much over. It will be Cornell's first NCAA victory and the Ivy League's first advancement since 1998.

2:12 p.m.: With five minutes remaining, Xavier has taken a double-digit lead over Minnesota, 57-46.

2:06 p.m.: The other early games are beginning to have an air of finality to them as well.

Cornell leads Temple 63-48 behind Ryan Wittman's 20 points (four 3s) and looks to be the day's first upset (12 over 5).

Minnesota-Xavier isn't quite over yet, but the Golden Gophers haven't been inspiring for some time while the Musketeers are firmly clinging to their lead.

Xavier is up 52-44, paced by Jordan Crawford's 22 points. Lawrence Westbrook has 15 for Minnesota.

2:01 p.m.: We're at a 30-point lead for West Virginia, which began the game in a 10-1 hole. It's 66-36 with 7:47 remaining, and it's all Kevin Jones and Devin Ebanks. Jones has 17 points and 8 rebounds, while Ebanks has 16 and 12, respectively.

No Morgan State Bear has double-digit points, although Joe Davis has nine.

1:55 p.m.: Minnesota and Xavier are locked in a seesaw battle. Xavier currently holds a 45-39 lead.

The Musketeers' six-point lead is the second of the last couple of minutes. Minnesota battled back when down 40-34, and time will tell if it can pull off another surge again.

Xavier is 7-for-10 in free throws made, while Minnesota has only converted half of their eight chances.

1:48 p.m.: Temple has converted its last six field-goal attempts, and are keeping pace with Cornell. It seems the Big Red can't be stopped, though, as Wittman has dropped another 3-point bomb to extend the lead 51-42.

1:45 p.m.: Wittman comes off a screen to drop a three-pointer, followed immediately by another. Cornell is now up 46-24 and looks completely locked in.

1:44 p.m.: West Virginia has a 56-32 edge with 12 minutes to go. Game's pretty much over at this point.

WVU's coach, Bob Huggins, is coaching his alma mater. If he can take them all the way, Huggins will be the 12th coach to coach an alma mater to victory in the tournament.

1:39 p.m. Minnesota-Xavier is back. Jason Love dropped two points to push Xavier to a lead of 28-26.

1:35 p.m. Devin Ebanks is very impressive for the Musketeers, dropping 14 points and grabbing eight boards.

Meanwhile, Morgan State is stagnant. The team gets a couple points here and there, then dries up for a bit before finally banking more points.

1:28 p.m.: Morgan State finally scores with 17:45 to go in the second. It's the first time they've netted points since 1:12 remaining in the first.

West Virginia is firing on all cylinders, and have scored 10 since the start of the half. This is turning into a blowout, 48-29 WVU.

1:20 p.m.: Minnesota and Xavier go to the half tied at 26. Cornell will get a break up 37-29, a commanding lead for a 12 seed.

Louis Dale has 11 of the Big Red's points, while Ryan Wittman and Jeff Foote each have nine apiece.

Wittman has converted one of two 3-pointers. He has an Ivy League-record 268 coming into the game over his career.

1:18 p.m. Cornell has gotten 11 points off turnovers so far, and lead Temple 37-26 as they come up on the half as well.

Morgan State-West Virginia should be exiting their break just as Cornell-Temple go to the locker room.

1:16 p.m.: Minnesota and Xavier are coming up on halftime. With a minute remaining, Xavier holds a 24-23 lead.

The Musketeers have a nice pedigree in the NCAA Tournament, having been in nine of the last 10 with at least one game won the last three seasons.

The Golden Gophers are giving them a run for their money, and Lawrence Westbrook responsible for over half of their points with 12.

1:07 p.m.: Cornell is just 2-for-6 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc, well off their 43.4 percent mark in the regular season.

However, the Temple Owls are third in the nation in 3-point defense (28.1 percent), so Cornell will take what it can get — especially with 29 points already on the board. The Owls give up an average of only 56.1 points to the opponent.

It's 29-24 Cornell with four minutes remaining.

1:04 p.m.: Jordan Crawford, a transfer from Indiana, is keeping Xavier in the game with eight of the Musketeers' 17 points.

1:03 p.m.: WVU and MSU are at the half. Minnesota and Xavier are knotted at 17, and Cornell is proving to justify its trendy upset pick, leading Temple 25-18 with six left in the half.

1 p.m.: West Virginia has roared back from a 10-1 deficit to lead Morgan State 34-25 with about two minutes left in the half.

Senior Bears guard Reggie Holmes has been quiet so far with three points. His total 784 points entering the game rank second in the nation.

Holmes has been responsible for almost 30 percent of the team's offensive production.

On the West Virginia side of things, Kevin Jones has 11 points, and Devin Ebanks has 10.

12:55 p.m.: Cornell has jumped out to a 22-11 lead behind Louis Dale's seven points.

Temple has a tough tourney history. The Owls have a total of 31 victories without a tournament title. Also, their coach, Fran Dunphy, is working on a 10-game losing streak in the NCAA.

His counterpart on the other side, Steve Donahue, has a two-game losing streak at Cornell, with the university as a whole working on a five-game deficit.

Donahue spent 10 years as an assistant under Dunphy at Penn, so they're quite well-acquainted with each other.

12:47 p.m.: The Minnesota Golden Gophers (No. 11 seed) are trailing Xavier (No. 6) 11-8.

Minnesota's Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) of 62 is the lowest of any at-large team this year. The last at-large Big Ten team with a lower RPI was … also Minnesota, in 1995 with 66.

On the other side of the court, Xavier coach Chris Mack is rather green — he's the only first-year coach in the field. With 32 games experience, he has exactly as many games experience as games being played in the first round.

12:41 p.m.: Morgan State is catching up after getting off to an ice-cold start. The Bears currently trail 17-12, and their star, Da'Sean Butler, is quiet with only one point scored so far. As the game winds on, don't be surprised if he heats up, though. Butler has six game-winning shots this year, including one March 13 to secure the Big East championship over recently deposed Georgetown.

He also ranks third on the school leaderboard with 2,016 points entering the game. He trails Rod Hundley and Jerry West.

12:35 p.m.: Cornell, representing the Ivy League for the third straight year, is looking awfully good. The Big Red are playing with a lot of energy and have been able to drop some impressive plays.

However, no Ivy League team has won since 1998, and with Cornell's No. 12 seeding going up against Temple's No. 5, the Big Red will have an uphill battle to snap that losing drought.

It's 10-9 Cornell.

12:33 p.m.: Devin Ebanks finally converts one from the field to give the Mountaineers a 14-5 deficit.

Minnesota has jumped out to a 6-4 lead over Xavier, and Cornell just dropped a layup to pull within one of Temple.

12:30 p.m.: Minnesota-Xavier is under way, and Cornell-Temple has tipped off.

12:27 a.m.: West Virginia finally gets on the board with a free-throw conversion to trail 10-1. It remains 0-for-9 from the field.

12:20 a.m.: The first game begins with Morgan State taking on West Virginia.

The Morgan State Bears have gotten off to a quick start, dropping eight points. The Mountaineers have yet to answer.

8 a.m. Thursday was a day full of upsets. Some weren't surprising. Others, like the takedown of Vanderbilt by Murray State or the thumping of Georgetown by Ohio, turned some heads.

Friday is yet another slate of first-round basketball games in March Madness. Join us all day and night to get live updates from each game.

Here's today's slate of games, to be covered between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.:
