Who Will Lead Red Sox in Home Runs in 2010?

Who Will Lead Red Sox in Home Runs in 2010? Dustin Pedroia is on a tear at the plate, mashing a team-leading four homers in the first nine games of the year.

But who is second on the Red Sox? That would be Jason Varitek, who has played a grand total of one game, stepped to the plate four times and sent the ball over the fence twice.

Four others — Kevin Youkilis, J.D. Drew, Jeremy Hermida and Victor Martinez — have one homer on the year, which makes it fair to wonder who will lead this team in home runs come Oct. 3.

Pedroia's single-season high is 17, hit back in the 2008 MVP season. While he could very realistically improve upon that total, it's hard to expect him to jump to the 30-homer plateau (at least not while maintaining his average and OBP).

Martinez has touched 25 just once in his career and Youkilis has topped that mark in each of the past two seasons, but with David Ortiz unable to get it going, with Mike Lowell and Varitek in diminished roles and with Adrian Beltre being unpredictable, who will lead this team in taters at the end of the season?

If you think Pedroia can keep up the pace, text "SOX1" to 542542. If you think it'll be Youkilis, text "SOX2" to 542542. If you think it will be someone else on the team, text "SOX3" to 542542.

As of 8 a.m. ET Saturday, Pedroia garnered 52 percent of the vote, while Youkilis earned 33 percent. 15 percent of voters thought someone else would come through as the home run king.
