John Henry Says Bringing Success to Liverpool Is Now Ownership’s ‘Responsibility’

As Red Sox fans can attest, John Henry and Co. are pretty good at making the most of an investment, especially a pro sports team.

So it shouldn't come as a surprise to any in the States that Henry and New England Sports Ventures (NESV) are already doing everything they can to turn around a struggling Liverpool franchise in the Premier League.

LFC's team website revealed that Henry recently answered some questions for Liverpool fansite, redandwhitekop.com about his latest purchase and what he intends to do in order to help LFC get back to its glory days.

"It's fascinating and challenging," Henry said of his group's latest endeavor. "Now we are lucky to be meeting football people who can give us input. Our biggest responsibility is to bring in the right people to the club on and off the field."

And while Henry and NESV are obviously committed to bringing the best to LFC, he was quick to stress that replacing one or two people — manager Roy Hodgson included — won't neccessarily be the best solution.

"There are no guaranteed matches any longer for any club," he said. "This club can be better. Blaming the manager or any one particular player is simply wrong. This club needs to play up to their potential every match. If they don't, they won't win."

Henry went on to stress even more that even in the upcoming January transfer window, there are no certain fixes for the club and stated, rather, that they're ready to commit long term to making LFC better.

"We have to work to do and must invest in this club to improve it on the field. Can that be successfully done in January? A number of people I've talked with doubt it. Most people seem to think it will be the summer before we can really begin to improve. So the players — all 11 each week — have to be on the same page every match and have to live up to the history and respect this club has engendered — no matter what."
