When an ejected Bobby Valentine popped up in the Mets' dugout with a mustache-and-glasses disguise in New York, the largest media market in the country, a statement was made. Valentine knew he'd be caught — he simply didn't care.
You could argue that such audacity is stupid — it ended up costing Valentine two more full games away from the dugout — but it could be that type of fearlessness that attracted the Red Sox to him in the first place.
Plus, this is baseball, where making sense doesn't always make the most sense. Sometimes you need to go kick some dirt on an umpire's shoes and shout swears at his face, even if you know you can't change the call. Valentine's mustache show proves he's not afraid to be a little different.
