Frank Lampard, Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba 'Play' Cricket in Terrible Pepsi Commercial (Video)The history of television commercials is filled with failed crossover attempts. Famous people step outside of their realms and try and emulate other public figures — usually with disastrous consequences.

Chelsea FC stars Frank Lampard, Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba recently starred in one such crossover attempt. The trio of thirsty soccer stars traveled to India and took the field in a Pepsi commercial.

The twist was that they were challenged to a game of cricket by a few top player’s from the cricket-mad country. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli and others appeared in the newly styled Pepsi challenge.

The hosts took the Chelsea players’ soft drinks and told them they must play “our game” (cricket) in order to get them back. The commercial was fine until the game started.

As Drogba was ready to bowl, he decided to flip the ball into the air and kick it to Lampard. The England international then made a few flicks before passing to Torres. Torres juggled and kicked it in some direction, but this critic lost interest long before the commercial ended.

Pepsi will get a pass for this one, as its marketing people have made many great commercials over the years. But here’s a note to the American audience: If you see Drogba, Torres and Lampard appear on your screens on Super Bowl Sunday … look away. That is all.
