Brewers Catcher Jonathan Lucroy Breaks Hand After Wife Drops Suitcase Searching for Lost Sock

The only thing Jonathan Lucroy will be catching in the near future is bad luck.

The Brewers' catcher injured his right hand in a weird hotel room incident on Sunday night. Lucroy was apparently searching for a lost sock under his bed when his wife accidentally knocked over a suitcase. The suitcase then fell on Lucroy's throwing hand, breaking it in what doctors are calling a "boxer's fracture."

Lucroy tried to take some swings the next day and was penciled into the lineup. However, he was scratched after he discovered he couldn't grip a bat, and is not headed to the disabled list.

"His leadership skills have definitely been huge for us this year," said teammate Shaun Marcum. "He's kind of taken control back there, and that's something that you look for. He's definitely going to be missed."

Lucroy has filled the void that Prince Fielder left in the Brewers lineup, giving regining NL MVP Ryan Braun some protection. He's leading the majors with a .514 average with runners in scoring position through the first 48 games.

Lucroy is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, but the Brewers hope to have him back before then.
