Will Rhymes and the Rays had a scary moment during the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game, ending in Rhymes being carted off the field.
Rhymes was hit by a pitch on the forearm by Franklin Morales, and went to first base after being tended to. It looked like he would stay in the game but then Rhymes signaled to the Rays dugout to remove him. Shortly thereafter, he collapsed on the field near the first base coach’s box.
The Rays medical staff attended to him and he was carted off for further treatment. It’s unclear at this time what could have happened to Rhymes, but some early speculation suggests that his body may have gone into shock after possibly breaking his arm.
The latest reports indicate that X-rays on Rhymes were negative and that he passed out following an adrenaline rush. It seems like he will be okay.
