Maybe the Dolphins were the right choice for HBO's Hard Knocks after all.
For many football fans, Miami didn't seem like a very appetizing choice for the hit series, as there are other teams across the league with much more intriguing training camp storylines. However, in the wake of this weekend's events involving Chad Johnson, this season's version of the show suddenly got interesting.
Johnson, of course, was cut by the Dolphins after he was arrested on domestic assault charges on Saturday. Much of the news and focus was on the actual incident at the time, but after taking a step back, fans of the HBO series realized that we could ultimately witness footage of Johnson's release.
That footage was shown on Tuesday night's episode, and it made for some compelling TV. Head coach Joe Philbin brought a rather remorseful Johnson into his office to deliver the bad news, and the veteran receiver seemed to be very disappointed (as you'd expect). Johnson made it clear, however, that he understood the situation, and he was appreciative of the opportunity provided by Philbin.
Check out the video of Johnson getting cut below, which features a tough, yet fair Philbin explaining his decision.
Some varied emotions going on in this photo.
I don't think Bobby [Valentine] should be fired. We haven't played well. That's the bottom line. I'm not going to blame anything on Bobby. It's on the players.
–Dustin Pedroia, responding to a strange day in Red Sox Nation
As made clear by his Twitter photo, Chad Johnson is between a rock and a hard place right now.
