Report: Bears Receiver Brandon Marshall to Undergo Hip Surgery

marshallBrandon Marshall almost single-handedly carried the Chicago Bears’ anemic passing attack this season, catching nearly four times as many passes for more than twice as many yards as any other wideout on the Bears’ roster.

All that work took a hard toll on the seventh-year pro, and Marshall will now undergo arthroscopic hip surgery, according to ESPN.com. The procedure is not expected to be serious, however, as Wright quotes an NFL source saying that the wideout is not expected to be out of commission more than two weeks.

In his first season in Chicago, the Central Florida product reforged a quick bond with quarterback Jay Cutler — the two played together in Denver for three seasons — putting up career highs in catches (118) and receiving yards (1,508) en route to his fourth Pro Bowl selection. The 118 grabs set a single-season Bears record and dwarfed No. 2 receiver Earl Bennett’s total of 29.

The source of Marshall’s injury is unclear, as he did not appear on Chicago’s injury report this season. He has experienced hip problems in the past, however, undergoing surgeries in 2009 and 2010.
