Shawn Thornton has made a living out of fighting, and more often than not, he’s been able to skate off with seemingly no damage. That changed Thursday night.
Thornton left Thursday’s game with the Buffalo Sabres in the first period after fighting Buffalo’s John Scott in the first period and did not return. The Bruins announced Friday that Thornton has suffered a concussion. He is expected to miss 7-10 days.
The 6-foot-8 Scott got the best of Thornton, pounding with some heavy right hands in a quick fight in front of the boards. Thornton served his major penalty for fighting in the penalty box, but he went straight to the locker room after the fight.
Replays showed Thornton looking a little woozy following the fight.
The Bruins called up forward Jamie Tardif from Providence on Friday morning on an emergency basis. He was set to practice with the B’s on Friday before traveling with the club to Toronto for Saturday’s game against the Maple Leafs.
