Apparently, Red Bull gives the ball wings, too.
On Thursday, Martin Hinteregger, a player on Austrian soccer club Red Bull Salzburg, scored the most spectacular goal of his nascent career in a game against German club FC Schalke 04.
The 20-year-old defender took a pass, beat an opponent, shot and scored … from over 70 yards away.
The long-range strike gave Salzburg a 3-1 lead in a game it would ultimately win by the same score. Unfortunately for Hinteregger and his team, neither the goal nor the victory will count on any official records. It was a preseason exhibition game between the two clubs.
Hinteregger could have a long career ahead of him, but it’s unlikely that he’ll score a goal like this ever again.
