Report: Mark Sanchez May Have Partially Torn Labrum in Throwing Shoulder, To see Dr. James Andrews

Mark SanchezThe Jets are starting rookie quarterback Geno Smith in their season opener on Sunday, but that’s only because Mark Sanchez is out with an injury. Now, it appears that injury might be more serious than originally thought.

Doctors believe Sanchez may have a torn labrum in his injured throwing shoulder, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. He will visit with renowned Dr. James Andrews this week for a second opinion on the shoulder.

Sanchez was actually on the field with the Jets during pregame warmups on Sunday, and he was even throwing passes — albeit left-handed.

The Jets haven’t given a set timeline for Sanchez’s return yet, and it seems that’s because they don’t know the severity of the injury just yet. A torn labrum could mean he’ll miss a few months, even hitting injured reserve. If it is just a separated shoulder, as the Jets originally anticipated, then he could be back in a few weeks.

Although, there’s no guarantee his starting job will be there for him when he gets back.
