The New England Revolution stole a point from the Chicago Fire on Saturday afternoon, preserving a 1-1 road draw.
The Fire grabbed an early one-goal lead when Quincy Amarikwa squeezed his shot past Bobby Shuttleworth in the 16th minute. But it didn’t take long for the Revs to strike back, as Lee Nguyen buried the come-from-behind penalty-kick equalizer just 15 minutes later.
That score would stay unchanged despite a wild finale that included both teams finishing the game with 10 men. Chicago forward Quincy Amarikwa was ejected in the 73rd minute for a second yellow card, while New England’s Kevin Alston was ejected with a straight red card in the 90th minute for handling the ball on the goal line. As a result, Alston will miss next Saturday’s home match against Sporting Kansas City.
In stoppage time and after Alston’s ejection, Shuttleworth saved Juan Luis Anangono’s penalty kick attempt to preserve the road point.
