Toronto Blue Jays prospect Dalton Pompey stepped up to the plate Tuesday night with a tall task.

He was facing Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez at Rogers Centre in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Jays down 2-1. So what did the 21-year-old outfielder do?

He launched a solo shot — his first career home run — right field, of course.

It’s exciting for any Major League Baseball player when they hit their first home run, but it’s even more exciting when it’s off one of the best pitchers in the game. Not to mention, Pompey is from Mississauga, Ont., which is just outside Toronto.

All in all, it was a special night for a young player with an awesome name.
