NCAA Football: Colorado State at Boston CollegeBoston College came within minutes of beating Colorado State on Saturday, but some fourth-quarter heroics from the Rams turned all of that around.

The Eagles looked poised to handle Colorado State in the first half. After a scoreless first quarter, BC intercepted Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson for a second time and followed that with an 80-yard drive for the game’s first score. Running back Jon Hilliman rushed for a 4-yard touchdown.

BC did more work on their next possession, marching up the field for 96 yards before a 7-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Tyler Murphy. Murphy’s 500 rushing yards entering the day led all quarterbacks.

Even after the Rams tied things up at 14 apiece on a long drive in the third quarter, BC pushed ahead with Hilliman’s second TD of the day on an 82-yard drive of their own.

But the fourth quarter was much less fruitful for the Eagles.

BC entered the final quarter up 21-14, but quickly lost some insurance when Colorado State’s first drive ended in a field goal. The Eagles looked to make up for that on their next possession, but Murphy was intercepted by Rams defensive back Bernard Blake in Colorado State territory.

Colorado State got the ball with just over five minutes to play, and Grayson converted on a fourth-and-10 in a big way. Grayson completed a 12-yard pass to Charles Lovett for the go-ahead touchdown. BC had just over a minute left, and they weren’t able to turn it into a score.

Murphy ended the day 12-for-18 with 169 yards and an interception, while Hilliman amassed 128 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns. BC’s record now sits at 3-2.
