MLB: Boston Red Sox at Minnesota TwinsThe Boston Red Sox were swept this week by the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. Things don’t get any easier Thursday.

The Red Sox will battle the first-place Kansas City Royals for four games at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals enter the series opener holding a one-game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central.

The Red Sox swept the Royals the last time the teams hooked up. However, Boston was playing much better baseball right after the All-Star break, and the current club looks significantly different.

One player who survived the Red Sox’s flurry of trade deadline moves was Clay Buchholz. The right-hander will toe the rubber Thursday as the Sox look to snap a four-game losing streak. Buchholz has pitched much better in the second half.
