Miami Dolphins defensive end Derrick Shelby is having a forgettable week off.

The Dolphins suspended Shelby indefinitely Monday after he was arrested at a Fort Lauderdale nightclub over the weekend. The team, which was on its bye week in Week 5, promptly banned Shelby for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

According to the police report, via the Sun Sentinel, Shelby was arrested after refusing to leave the nightclub. The defensive end was asked several times to leave because security guards said he was touching women. Shelby also reportedly appeared intoxicated. When he refused to leave, he eventually was subdued by police after officers used a Taser on the 6-foot-2, 282-pound third-year pro. Shelby was charged with misdemeanor trespassing and resisting arrest without violence and was released on a $100 bond.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office mug shot showed Shelby in rough condition with facial scratches and a swollen, bloody lip.

The Dolphins announced the suspension in a statement Monday.

“We were disappointed to learn about Derrick’s arrest,” Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said in the statement released. “Everyone in this organization is held to high standards of conduct and professionalism. Based on my conversations with Derrick and the information we have thus far, Derrick will be placed on Indefinite Club Suspension. When we have completed all of the necessary diligence, we will make a final determination on his discipline.”

Shelby recorded six tackles and two sacks in the Dolphins’ first four games this season.
