The NFC South is bad. You know it. We know it. Brady Quinn knows it.

But that’s no reason to blow up the NFL’s playoff format or divisional structure, Quinn contends.

The former NFL quarterback takes a different view than those who say the NFC South’s struggles this season should prompt the league to rethink its playoff structure. It is possible — probably even likely — that the NFC South champion will finish the season with a record below .500, then host a first-round playoff game, as is a division winner’s right.

Some find that ridiculous. Quinn just thinks it’s fair.

“It may be ugly,” Quinn writes on FootballbyFootball.com, “but ugly isn’t necessarily broke.”

Quinn points to his 2011 Denver Broncos, who made the playoffs at 8-8 and knocked off the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card round. Anything can happen in the playoffs, where the only difference between an 8-8 team and a 12-4 team is what happens on the field.
