Kevin Durant’s season is over, with the defending NBA Most Valuable Player scheduled to have a third surgery on his broken right foot.

The Oklahoma City Thunder made the announcement Friday afternoon, officially ruling Durant will miss four to six months. The 26-year-old forward hasn’t played since Feb. 19.

Durant had a screw replaced in his ailing foot in February, with the Thunder somewhat ominously saying they expected him to return this season but offering no timetable. OKC general manager Sam Presti said last Friday “the direction that we’re taking right now” was that Durant would be shut down for the season, but there was no official word from the team.

Durant averaged 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season, appearing in just 27 of the Thunder’s 72 games.
