Camden Yards will host a spectator sport without the spectators Wednesday.

The Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox will play at 2:05 p.m. ET in a game that’s closed to the public in response to riots and protests that have overtaken the city. To clarify: Wednesday’s game will be played in front of a completely empty stadium. According to MLB’s official historian, those are unprecedented circumstances.

The empty stadium obviously will create a bizarre environment, most notably due to a complete lack of crowd noise.

As the Orioles’ Steve Pearce and Adam Eaton observed, this silence could affect in-game strategy.

The stands won’t be completely empty, however, as MLB scouts will assume their usual posts behind home plate. They’ll likely be the only people seated in the entire stadium.

As FOX Sports’ John Morosi points out, some fans might actually get to watch the game in person.

If that’s the case, they’ll be treated to a relatively normal in-game experience, if you consider watching someone sing the national anthem in front of a handful of scouts normal.

Wednesday’s contest certainly will be one-of-a-kind, albeit one that raises some important questions.
