UPDATE (9:33 p.m. ET): The Boston Bruins announced Tuesday night that forward Chris Kelly fractured his left femur during his first shift of Boston’s matchup with the Dallas Stars. Kelly was transported to Mass General Hospital, will undergo surgery Wednesday and is expected to miss the next six to eight months.

ORIGINAL POST: BOSTON — Chris Kelly left Tuesday’s Bruins-Dallas Stars matchup just three seconds into his first shift with what appeared to be a serious leg injury.

After stealing the puck form Stars center Colton Sceviour in the neutral zone, Kelly absorbed a seemingly minor hit from Sceviour’s stick and went down in a heap, clutching his left knee.

The veteran forward remained down on the ice for several minutes before being helped to his feet by team trainers. He immediately headed to the locker room, putting very little weight on his left leg.

Kelly has appeared in all 11 games for the Bruins this season, scoring two goals and posting a plus-3 rating.
