The rhetoric already is spewing out of Rex Ryan’s mouth, and the New England Patriots-Buffalo Bills matchup is still nearly a week away.
Ryan did his best to inflate the Patriots’ egos in his news conference Tuesday, while also taking shots at his brother, Rob Ryan, who was fired as defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints on Monday.
Ryan was asked if this is a good time to face the Patriots, since the New York Giants forced a relatively subpar game out of Tom Brady in Week 10. Ryan wasn’t having it and said he’ll be fired if Brady is able to play all game like he did in the fourth quarter Sunday, when he went 11 of 18 for 193 yards with a touchdown and interception.
“They rattled for 200, for over 200 yards passing in a quarter,” Ryan exaggerated to reporters in Buffalo. “So what is that 800, (if) he threw for 800 yards against us — if that happens, I will join my brother in unemployment line. Brady will try and do that, you watch.”
Brady went 38 of 59 for 466 yards with three touchdowns in Week 2, when the Patriots beat the Bills 40-32.
Ryan also called Patriots head coach Bill Belichick the “greatest coach of all time” and New England “arguably the best team in football right now” with “the best offense in the league, with the best quarterback.”
He’s not wrong. The Patriots and Carolina Panthers are the only remaining undefeated teams in the NFL. Brady leads the league in passing yards, touchdowns and passer rating. The Patriots lead the NFL in points per game with 33.7, and they’re second with 418.7 yards per game.
Their defense isn’t too shabby either, ranking fourth in points allowed, second in rushing yards allowed and 11th in passer rating allowed.
