The underachieving Pittsburgh Penguins have been dealt another blow.

Penguins general manager announced Tuesday that goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury will miss at least the next one to two weeks after being diagnosed with a concussion.

“I haven’t talked to the doctor yet. I don’t have any further information other than he was examined, and it was determined he was concussed,” Rutherford told reporters, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “At a minimum, one to two weeks. You can’t put a timeline on these things, though.”

Fleury reportedly informed the Pittsburgh coaching staff of his symptoms after Monday’s 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals but might not have suffered the injury during that game.

“I don’t think it was in the game (Monday) night, but he didn’t indicate when,” Sullivan told reporters, via the Post-Gazette. “Certainly when he brought it to our attention, we addressed it.”

Fleury, whom the Post-Gazette’s Jenn Menendez called Pittsburgh’s best player this season, has posted a 13-10-2 with a 2.29 goals against average and .925 save percentage in 25 starts. His injury will sideline him for his team’s upcoming home-and-home series against the Boston Bruins, which begins Wednesday at TD Garden.

The Penguins, who rank eighth in the NHL in goals against but 27th in scoring, lack a proven backup to Fleury, the team’s No. 1 goalie for the better part of the last decade. Jeff Zatkoff, his current understudy, has started just 22 games his career and has posted a 2.43 GAA and .936 save percentage in four starts this season.

The Bruins have earned at least a point in 11 of their last 12 games and entered Tuesday with the NHL’s third-highest-scoring offense.
