BOSTON — If the Golden State Warriors are to improve on their 23-0 record Friday night, they’ll have to do it without one of their best players.
Warriors guard Klay Thompson will sit out Friday night’s game against the Celtics, Golden State interim head coach Luke Walton said beforehand at TD Garden.
“Klay is good to sit on the bench tonight,” Walton said when asked if Thompson felt good enough to play. “He’s not well enough to risk it, so he’s not going to play (Friday).”
Thompson injured the ankle Tuesday night in Indiana and said Thursday he hoped to play Friday. However, with the Warriors on the first night of back-to-backs ahead of finishing a seven-game road trip Saturday night at Milwaukee, it makes sense to give him at least an extra day of rest. Walton was noncommittal when asked about Thompson’s status for the game against the Bucks.
Thompson is averaging 18.2 points per game after he scored a season-high 39 against Indiana.
