Did Someone Sucker-Punch UNC’s Mascot After Villanova’s Buzzer-Beater?

It was a pretty tough night to be a North Carolina basketball fan Monday. But the school’s own mascot might’ve had the worst night of any Tar Heels supporter.

Rameses the Ram was among the many UNC fans who looked on in dismay at Houston’s NRG Stadium as Villanova’s Kris Jenkins drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Wildcats to their first national championship since 1985.

Several awesome videos — if you’re not a Tar Heels fan, that is — have emerged of Jenkins’ shot and the ensuing madness. But one video in particular from CBS Sports analyst Seth Davis revealed a pretty disturbing development. Keep an eye on Rameses (the big mascot with the yellow horns) in the lower left corner of the video:

The incident starts at the 14-second mark, when Rameses appears to get clocked out of nowhere by a guy in a light blue shirt who we’re guessing is a Tar Heels fan.

We’re not sure if there’s any backstory to this punch or whether the fan was just taking out his frustration on the poor mascot. Either way, it was a pretty rough five-second span for Rameses.
