The Washington Wizards reportedly are ready to turn the keys over to Scott Brooks.

The former Oklahoma City Thunder coach agreed to become the Wizards new head coach Thursday, sources told The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The reported contract is for five years and $35 million.

The Wizards looked like a team heading in the right direction following a trip to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2015, along with young stars Bradley Beal and John Wall on the roster. But they failed to make the playoffs this season and fired head coach Randy Wittman.

Brooks, who had a 338-207 record and an NBA Finals berth during seven seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, now will try to achieve similar results in Washington.

Something else that makes this move intriguing is the impending free agency of forward Kevin Durant, who played under Brooks in Oklahoma City. Durant is from just outside Washington D.C., and Wojnarowski reports the Wizards will try to sign him in the offseason, although they remain a long shot to land him, even with the addition of Brooks.
