Kevin Durant Should Pick Celtics Over Lakers, According To Chauncey Billups

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and there would be no shortage of suitors if the All-Star forward hit the market.

The Boston Celtics reportedly believe Durant will give them a visit if he reaches free agency, and they arguably represent his best landing spot if he leaves the Western Conference.

But are the Celtics the best spot for Durant in the whole league? Former NBA point guard Chauncey Billups thinks Boston is at least a better free-agent destination for Durant than the struggling Los Angeles Lakers.

He said as much during a recent airing of ESPN’s “NBA Tonight.”

Billups originally was drafted by Boston in 1997, but the Celtics gave up on him too early and traded him during his rookie season. It was one of many bad roster moves in the Rick Pitino era.

Danny Ainge has proven to be a far more effective president of basketball operations for the Celtics, but persuading Durant to choose the Celtics over teams like the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Thunder won’t be easy.

Of course, this all assumes Durant doesn’t stay in OKC one more season or long-term.
