Patriots Practice Observations: Cornerbacks Show Fight In Coverage, Scraps

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots’ cornerbacks wouldn’t go down without a fight Monday in their joint practice with the Chicago Bears.

The Patriots’ defense didn’t make life easy on Bears quarterbacks Jay Cutler, Brian Hoyer, Connor Shaw and David Fales, recording 15 pass breakups in team drills.

Here’s everything that went down at the Patriots-Bears joint practice:

— Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler got booted from practice after getting into a scrap with Bears wideout Alshon Jeffery. Butler and Jeffery had one another by the face mask before more Bears players ran in and escalated the fight. Patriots defenders Duron Harmon, Cyrus Jones and Jamie Collins also were in on the action.

— Tight end Rob Gronkowski left practice early after pulling up during 7-on-7 drills. He walked off the field and into the locker room.

— Running backs D.J. Foster and Donald Brown, wide receivers Keshawn Martin, Malcolm Mitchell and Danny Amendola, guard Tre’ Jackson, tight end Bryce Williams and defensive end Rob Ninkovich worked on a separate field with trainers during the joint practice.

— Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was 7 of 14 in 11-on-11s and 11 of 22 overall. Jimmy Garoppolo was 9 of 12 in 11s and 13 of 18 overall. Third-stringer Jacoby Brissett was 4 of 8 in 11s.

— Cutler was 11 of 18 in 11-on-11s and 17 of 28 overall. Hoyer was 9 of 12 with an interception in 11s and 14 of 17 with the pick overall. Shaw was 0 of 3 with an interception in 11s and Fales was 2 of 2.

— Patriots safety Jordan Richards picked off Shaw. Linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill intercepted Hoyer.

— Linebacker Jamie Collins (2), cornerback Justin Coleman (2), safeties Devin McCourty and Vinnie Sunseri and cornerbacks Logan Ryan, Cre’von LeBlanc and E.J. Biggers had pass breakups in team drills.
