The Chicago Cubs have lived to see another day, and they have their 39-year-old catcher in part to thank.

The Cubs staved off elimination at Wrigley Field on Sunday night, defeating the Cleveland Indians 3-2 in Game 5 of the World Series to force a Game 6 in Cleveland on Tuesday.

David Ross was right in the thick of the action, delivering what proved to be the game-winning RBI in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Ben Zobrist from third base.

That run gave Chicago a 3-1 lead, and while the Indians made it 3-2 in the sixth with a Francisco Lindor RBI single, Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman came up big with a 42-pitch, eight-out save to help his team hang on for the victory.

Kris Bryant blasted a solo home run and Addison Russell hit an RBI infield single as part of Chicago’s three-run fourth inning.

Ross, who also was involved in a circus catch in the second inning, made history with his sacrifice fly.

His contributions went beyond that one big swing, though — the former Boston Red Sox catcher also threw out Lindor trying to steal a base in the sixth and caught starting pitcher Jon Lester, who allowed two runs in six innings to pick up the victory.

Ross is retiring after the season, but he isn’t ready to hang them up just yet, and neither are the Cubs after Sunday night.
